Introduction

* Haeundae Dalmajigil Road: The most famous driving course in Busan *
Haeundae used to refer to Dongbaekseom Island located on the east seashore of Haeundae-gu, Busan, but these days, it refers to the area of “Dalmajigil” coastline and hill. Dalmajigil Road is also nicknamed “Busan’s Montmartre.” Ever since, this area has been well known for its splendid landscape harmonized with the blue sea, white sandy beach, camellia forest, and pine forest, comprising one of the eight sights of Busan. In addition, the elegant evening moon viewed from Dalmaji Pass in Haeundae and Cheongsapo Port was also included in the Eight Views of Korea.

During the Silla period, as Dongnae Hot Springs were discovered, Queen Jinseong was believed to have frequented here for recuperation; then, many governmental officers followed suit. Then, because of the floods in summer, the hot springs were closed. Later, in 1870, the hot springs were re-discovered, and Japanese people launched the development of the hot springs in 1897. Along with the opening of Haeundae Beach in 1965, Dongnae Hot Springs became Korea’s major summer holiday destination. On a clear day, visitors can see Tsushima Island in Japan vaguely.

There are many excellent hot springs, high-class hotels, seafood and raw fish restaurants, and nighttime amusement facilities around Haeundae, which has now become an urban-style, four-season tourist destination that satisfies all types of tourists through not only its natural environment but also its endless opportunities for entertainment and relaxation. Tourists can create memorable moments in Haeundae by enjoying walks along the beach with the sound of the waves under the winter moonlight, taking in the colorful night view of the city.

* Dalmajigil Road, Haewoljeong Pavilion, and New Millennium Monument *
Dalmajigil Road is a quiet path amid cherry trees and a pine grove, located on the road (halfway up Wausan Mountain) to Songjeong Beach after Haeundae Beach. It is also called “15-Curve Road” given its 15 or more curves, and it was established as an 8 km–long drive course. In particular, it is known for its breathtaking view of the full moon over the sea on January 15 in the lunar calendar (daeboreum). Furthermore, Dalmaji Park was built in the middle of the road (at the top). It has a monument made of natural stones, and it features Haewoljeong Pavilion, an old-style pavilion with an antique atmosphere, newly built in February 1997.

It also has Saecheonnyeon Monument, which was established in January 2000. This was built using the image of a gate that leads one out of the past and into a new century and world. It symbolizes the hope of Busan citizens, who welcome a new millennium, and Busan, the marine city advancing into the world.
