This beautiful city has great historical significance and rich natural resources. It features the magnificently towering Jirisan National Park, the beautiful, meandering Seomjingang River, and Hallyeohaesang National Park, a historic site for the Great Battle of Hansan where Admiral Yi Sun-sin fought against the Japanese Navy during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598). Noryang sea is also a must-see for those seeking the view of the ocean. Moreover, the city has various tourism resources, such as Ssanggyesa Temple, an ancient temple from Silla at the foot of Hwagae-myeon; Buril Falls between Cheonghakbong and Baekhakbong Peaks of Jirisan Mountain; and Chilbulsa Temple at the foot of Banyabong Peak of Jirisan Mountain. It is also widely known for the heavenly natural scenery of baeksacheongsong (white sand in perfect harmony with green old pine trees) and the 20 km (80 ri) waterway near Hadongpogu Port.
