  • Area :
  • Period : Joseon
  • Location : San 148-1, U-dong, Haeundae-gu, Busan

About 1,900 years ago, in the 23rd year of King Talhae of Silla, the area of Jangsan was supposedly a territory of the State of Jangsan, a confederation of tribes. Jangsan Mountain was designated as a tributary mountain in the mid-Joseon period, and its use was limited to the state actors. The Historic Documents of Dongha-myeon, Dongnae-bu, contain records of the altar being used for ceremonies offered to Mago Halmi, a folk goddess, starting with a rain ceremony held in 1714 by the people of the area. Today’s altar is a restoration dating back to 1924. Its remarkable state of preservation, being much better than other such altars in Korea, makes it a highly valuable one.
